Rubrik vs Veeam: The Battle for Data Resilience Dominance

Posted by: Rick Norgate

When it comes to data resilience, Rubrik and Veeam are two of the most popular names that keep coming up. From what we are seeing and hearing in the market from end users, Rubrik seems to be stealing the show. Its rapid growth, headline grabbing innovations, and recent IPO have made it the vendor that everyone is talking about. With a 38% year-on-year jump in Subscription revenue and over $1 billion now under its belt, it feels like Rubrik has become the “it” company in the world of cyber resilience.

But does that mean Veeam is out of the game? Absolutely not.

Why Rubrik is the Buzzword Right Now

Rubrik’s financial performance and strategic direction are undeniably impressive. A 43% revenue growth in Q3 2025, alongside partnerships with big names like Microsoft and Okta, have put it at the forefront of modern data resilience. With features like AI-driven security tools and a vast array of integrations that simplify protecting modern workloads, Rubrik has positioned itself as the cutting-edge choice for cyber resilience.

From a marketing, messaging and branding perspective, I think Rubrik has nailed it. They’ve tied their name to key industry trends like Zero Trust, AI, and automation. If you want to impress the board or tick the innovation box, Rubrik feels like the natural choice.

Why Veeam Shouldn’t Be Overlooked

However, despite Rubrik’s buzz, Veeam continues to deliver exceptional value. It’s a financial giant, with $1.7 billion in annual recurring revenue, growing 18% year-over-year. Its recent $2 billion secondary share sale, valuing the company at $15 billion, shows that the wider market still sees huge potential in Veeam.

What sets Veeam apart is its consistency, breadth and price. It supports over 150 workloads, from SaaS to AI, and counts household names like Shell and Deloitte among its customers. Add to that its continued growing investment in R&D coupled with competitive pricing and a keen eye for strategic acquisitions, and it’s clear Veeam is here to stay.

What MSPs Need to Know

For MSPs in the backup and recovery space, the real lesson here is that businesses are rarely one-size-fits-all, and the same goes for platforms. To remain competitive, MSPs need to support multiple platforms. For example Rubrik and Veeam both have strengths that appeal to different segments of the market, and being able to offer both gives MSPs the flexibility to address diverse client needs.

Rubrik might appeal to clients looking for cutting-edge innovation and a security-first mindset, while Veeam provides a tried-and-true approach that covers an incredibly wide range of workloads at a competitive price point. MSPs that embrace both can position themselves as the go-to experts, helping clients navigate the choice without bias.

The Bottom Line

Rubrik is quite rightly the hot name right now, but Veeam’s relentless business performance and market leadership make it impossible to ignore. For businesses and MSPs alike, the smart move is to look beyond the buzz and focus on how these platforms can deliver value over the long term.

In the end, this competition between Rubrik and Veeam pushes innovation forward and ensures all other vendors have to step up to the plate too. In our book that’s a win for everyone looking to build resilience in an unpredictable world. So while Rubrik grabs the headlines, don’t underestimate Veeam’s ability to continue to evolve and excel, and for the MSPs out there, make sure you’re ready to support both!
