This week, IBM announced its new storage software portfolio, along with a promise to invest another $1 billion in R&D. As part of a broader shift to Cloud, they are attempting to apply analytics to dumb storage so that data is stored on the most economical and secure locations.

Sure, it’s easy to pour scorn on yet another $1 billion investment, but the fruits of its last $1 billion storage investment was also seen this week in its latest Flash storage product – the V9000 - was unveiled.
